Those of you looking for an exhilarating ocean workout with the finest canoes and coaching available, now is the best time ever to check out Kawaihae Canoe Club. One of the most beautiful canoe club sites in all of Hawaii, located at Kawaihae Small Boat Harbor on the beach next to the boat ramp. The usually calm, clear waters of the South and North Kohala are easily accessible for competitive training throughout the year. The harbor provides a safe, sheltered area, perfect for beginners, one-man, and two-man canoes, SUP’s, and all other types of water sports. The winter season brings plenty of swell and waves to challenge the paddlers that love to ride the waves at the Kawaihae Break wall. This year the humpback whales were in full force, some extremely close encounter and lots of exciting sightings. Spring is here and the race season in starting up with the Kawaihae Canoe Club Long Distance Race on May 8th, 2010. It is an annual fundraiser for the club and a popular race for all the canoe clubs of the Big Island to check out the competition.
